After being among the roughly 280 people who attended Santa Margarita Catholic High's Spring Dance Concert on Wednesday, it's easy to see why the school's dance program is one of the finest around.

About 130 Santa Margarita dancers participated in the show, which featured 24 performances by beginning, intermediate and advanced dance students, as well as the competitive dance team.

Dance styles included hip hop, jazz and ballet. Most of the dances were choreographed by dance department director Lucia Wooley and her assistant, Tracy Vosper

Santa Margarita offers an International Baccalaureate dance program, in which students must complete a world dance studies research paper and show expertise in dance composition, analysis and performance.

Several works created by I.B. students were performed at the concert.

During the 2007-08 school year, Santa Margarita's competitive dance team captured awards in several categories at the Contest of Champions Nationals in Orlando, Fla., and the USA Nationals at Anaheim Convention Center.

The Spring Dance Concert runs through Saturday. Tickets are sold out.
