Yorba Linda may be the home to America's next Prom Queen.
Katelyn Morgan, 18, was selected to be a contestant on the new ABC Family reality series, "America's Prom Queen." Over six weeks Morgan and nine other girls lived in a mansion and competed for the title and other prizes.
The six-week show started airing March 17, the final episode is April 14.
The contestants are judged by a celebrity prom committee that will eliminate one girl each week. The celebrities are: Former Miss USA Susie Castillo, Hulk Hogan's daughter and recording artist Brooke Hogan, Susan Schultz editor in chief of CosmoGIRL!, Jai Rodriguez from Queer Eye for the Straight Guy and former MTV Road Rules contestant Theo Van.
Morgan, though never a prom queen herself, is active in the ASB at El Dorado High School.
Q: What's something people won't see on the show?
A: Even though people can look at you and think anything they want, your quality of character is what matters the most. I had to hold onto that – people are going to be watching this, and you have to set an example and be careful of what you're doing. People watching are following your lead. Being on the show was also really hard because they didn't let us talk to anyone on the outside. They took our cell phones so we had no communication with family and friends. It was pretty hard.
Q: What have you taken away from your experience on the show?
A: It was an experience of a lifetime. I was talking to one of the girls last night, and after filming, we left the show with a great experience. A lot of the time show focused on inner beauty. It gave us self confidence. For instance, during the first episode we designed our own prom dress in four hours. Then they brought in girls from a Compton high school and we got to help them pick out a dress, and they did a runway show. The judges looked at out personality and character.
Q: What are your plans after high school?
A: I want to go to college. I plan to go to California Baptist University and get into their nursing program. Hopefully I'll graduate in four years or so as an RN. I want to do something exciting like be a life flight nurse or ER nurse. I want something that will keep me on my toes.
