Flaunt OC, a fashion show featuring models from Estancia, Laguna Hills and Tustin high schools took place on Sunday at Gods and Heros salon in Costa Mesa. The event, the second in a three-part series, was hosted by Allie Stockton and Clay Adler of MTV's reality show "Newport Harbor."
The students strutted down the runway wearing designs from Brokedown Denim, Urban Junkie, Red Lotus and Ve'cel, a clothing line owned by Chester Bennington, the front man for Linkin Park and an Orange County native.
"We like the edgier side of things, and Gods and Heros fits the vibe we have," Bennington said. "Some of our images really push the envelope. We like to be different, and have found that's what people like."
The even was a fundraiser for the participating schools' cheer squads.
I got involved with [Flaunt OC]because I can never turn down a good charity opportunity. Also, events like these are really fun. I love planning and throwing parties myself," said co-host Stockton, who wore a T-shirt and hat from Brokedown Denim's OmniPeace collection.
Model Vanessa Garcia, a sophomore at Laguna Hills High School, was one of the lucky few on her JV squad to be a part of the event.
Our entire Varsity squad got to go, which left only three spots left for JV girls to fill. I had my name pulled out of a hat," Garcia said. After spending more than two hours getting her hair and makeup done, Garcia hoped for only one thing: not to fall down on the runway.
In preparation for their fashion routines, the Laguna Hills squad rehearsed almost everyday for a week during their cheer period, and also during spring break, said advisor Annie Tibbetts.
This has been a very interesting experience," Tibbetts said. "None of us knew what to expect, but it's nice having the girls get to be the stars this time, instead of them only cheering from the sidelines."
