Number 9: "Boyz N The Hood"
By no means a typical teen movie, and that's what made it so compelling. Three friends try to survive life in their hood with violence all around and life's realities, especially for the teen father trying to land a football scholarship and pass the SAT, in their faces. Another huge plus is the adults aren't caricatures, not that they could be with Laurence Fishburne and Angela Bassett playing them.
