Meet Miss La Habra 2008

Tiffany Fox wanted her time in the spotlight - to be one of the handful of teenage girls to grace the stage at the Miss La Habra pageant.

In 2007, she had seen a flyer at school beckoning young beauties to vie for the crown.

"Last year I had heard about it but it was too late," she said. "I had missed the deadline."

This year, however she got more than just her 15 minutes of fame on stage –she has claimed her place in the city limelight for the next year.

Fox, 18, took the crown at the 60th annual Miss La Habra Pageant at the La Habra Community Center Saturday.

Although beauty and poise are part of being a teen queen, moral fiber and an enthusiasm for helping others play an equally important role in beingcrowned.

She will spend the next year being a liaison for the La Habra Host Lion's Club and dedicating many hours to the city's philanthropic efforts.

Fox sat down with the Star Progress to talk about some of her favorite pageant moments and goals for the future.

Question: What are you looking forward to the most as Miss La Habra?

Answer: I'm really looking forward to all the city events and just being involved. I'm excited to see how that is all going to work and meeting a lot ofnew people.

Q: What was your favorite part of this experience?

A: Probably the orientation. All of the excitement builds up and then finally you get to meet all the girls.

We all went to dinner at El Cholo and it was really exciting to see so many girls enthusiastic about the same thing you are.

Q: What would you say to someone who is a beauty pageant critic?

A: I would try to convince them to do a pageant themselves. It's really not what you see in the movies or on television.

At first I wasn't even sure what I was getting myself into, not that I thought anything bad of it, but I wasn't sure how it all worked.

It's really fun and you meet a lot of new people and make new friends. Girls should try one out for themselves. I hopefully want to try another one someday.

Q: So, honestly, were you surprised when they called you?

A: Oh, I was so surprised.

After they called all the princesses I truly thought that was it, but thenwhen they called my name I thought "Oh my gosh, no way!" It was really exciting.

Q: What are your plans for the future?

A: I want to go to culinary school and specialize in baking and pastries. I just really grew to like baking this year.

I am taking a culinary class at school and we've done all sorts of different things, but I really enjoy making desserts.

Someday, I'd like to open my own bakery.
