They weren't as nimble-footed as Fred and Ginger, or as graceful as the performers in the Bolshoi Ballet..
But you know what? The finalists in Foothill High's "Dancing with the Teachers" competition weren't half bad.
Foothill staged its first-ever "Dancing With the Teachers" competition over the past month, and the final two couples strutted their stuff in freestyle routines at the school's Sadie Hawkins assembly on Friday.
Physics teacher Paul Roundy danced with senior Beth Hart, and English teacher James Garcia teamed up with senior Amira Albonni.
Garcia said he and Albonni had virtually no dancing experience before the competition.
The competition included three rounds of routines, which started about a month ago with five pairs of dancers. One team was eliminated after the first round and two after the second round, leaving the final two couples to perform in front of the student body at assembly.
Both couple's routines drew deafening applause from the student body, which cast their votes for the best team after the assembly.
Roundy and Hart were annouced as the winners on Monday. Both participants were awarded a trophy and will get an undisclosed amount of money.
"It was a good experience," Hall said. "They should do it every year."
"I didn't expect Mr. Roundy to be a dancer. He looks like a lumber jack."
All the participants learned their routines from choreographers at the Atomic Ballroom in Irvine, which provided the service for free.
"They announced it and it sounded like fun," said Roundy, when asked why he chose to participate. "I don't mind making a fool of myself."
