Irvine High and Laguna Hills scored the highest in their respective newspaper categories, while Trabuco Hills swept the yearbook category at the Orange County Journalism Education Association Write-Off on Saturday.

El Toro High won the "Super Sweeps" by getting the highest combined scores for newspaper and yearbook entries.

The annual competition attracted 239 students this year to El Toro High School, nearly double the attendance from last year.

Students were required to write news, take photographs, and design pages for various competition categories in the span of one morning. In addition, students submitted copies of their school newspapers completed before Saturday for judging.

Twenty four judges, including journalists from The Orange County Register, Yahoo! News, KFI and other media outlets, picked the winning entries.

The top 10 winners in the News, Editorial, Feature, and Sports categories move on to compete at the Southern California Journalism Education Association Write-Off in mid-May.
